'If you want to buy a stretch limo, first measure the length of your garage! Don't bring the new car home, then try and work out where to put it. If we are sharing the Gospel with Muslims, we need to take a good long look at the church, to ensure that those who come to faith will be welcomed, and feel at home... that they will fit. without some major adaptations, few churches could be called 'Muslim-friendly'.
How would your Christian friends feel about visiting a mosque? For most it is a rather scary proposition: the building seems foreign, the peope are different and there is a suspicion that something unpleasant might happen. In the same way, our churches are about the last place most Muslims would want to visit. So what do we do? One short article cannot provide the answers, certainly not if written by this author! With Muslims from dozens of different countries and cultures, speaking many different languages, one size will certainly not fit all. But maybe we can ask some of the right questions.
How can we be more relational? Most Muslims come from relational cultures - who you know is more important than what youdo. So evanelistic programmes and events need to take second place to simply befriending and sharing our lives with Muslims. A Muslim friendly church will be made up of Muslim friendly people, or at very least have a specialist team who understand Islam and Muslims.
